Pixelfox: “Journey Room” – the depth of his musical talent is evident on this album

Eddie Ozarie, AKA Pixelfox is a Mexican-born and raised artist who discovered a strong connection to classical music with the piano at the age of three, and later started discovering more contemporary sounds form old records his father used to play. He started recording his own music the moment he got his first computer and has been doing so to present day. After being accepted to Berklee College of Music in Boston at the age of 18, he moved to Massachusetts. Pixelfox’s debut album “Journey Room” was fully produced and recorded in his studio apartment after relocating to Los Angeles.

“Many of the songs had been written years before moving to California,” says Eddie Ozarie. “I just needed to move there and make them happen. There’s nothing more magical than listing to a good recording and feeling like you’re inside it. Reverberation and delay are like paint and brush. Without them I don’t know what there would be…”

And if you’re thinking that ‘recorded in his studio apartment’, means a kind of hobbyist do-it-yourself sound. Stop right there! “Journey Room” is exquisitely recorded, mixed and mastered. With all the dynamics, tones and nuances you’d expect from a commercial recording studio. This is most evident on the vocal tracks, which is where most ‘home studio’ recordings fall flat on its face.

Pixelfox manages to squeeze out varying intensities of warmth while maintaining crystal clear vocal tracks which are beautifully layered in the mix. Of course it does help when you have a voice that resonates against any musical backdrop, and ranges from right down below to whistling high falsetto.

Well-crafted both lyrically and melodically, every song on “Journey Room” is great. It is rare that you find an album that can be listened to from start to finish without skipping, but that happens here. Pixelfox did an incredible job putting this collection of songs together.

Listening to his music, it becomes clear that this is one of the most diverse and talented individuals you’re likely to come across. “Journey Room” seems to follow a melodic, sleek, catchy feel that transcends genres. Pixelfox’s breathy vocals are uniquely appealing but also deliver effectively in slower tempo tunes.

More importantly, the depth of his musical talent is evident on this album – he’s a compelling songwriter with remarkably attuned pop sensibilities; he plays his instruments, he sings, arranges and produces his own music. Such a combination of talent will give him the enduring appeal that will likely allow him to obtain and retain devoted fans for years to come.

Yes, I believe Pixelfox will storm the music scene with this debut album, provided he channels the right promotional avenues and gets songs like the groovy swing of “Maybe The Next Time” and “Life”, the darker rock of “Angeleno”, the gorgeous and soaring balladry of “When We Go” and “Angel In Despair”, past the media and industry gatekeepers.

Unlike most people in popular music, Eddie Ozarie, AKA Pixelfox is an artist. And if you have even an ounce of appreciation for a talented artist who can write lyrics, compose music and sing like his life depended on it then “Journey Room” is for you. The songs here are totally engaging and musically sound, often poetic, and rarely ever repetitive.

If you are someone who just listens to music, you will only enjoy this album tremendously. However, if you are someone who truly hears the music like a hummingbird in a garden, “Journey Room” will be a gem that you will cherish in your library forever. Pixelfox is a rare talent who caters to melodic and harmonic perfection.
