AXSOM: ‘Shmoney’ – endearing listeners with his rap cadences!

AXSOM is a West London, UK artist making his way up the ranks. After dropping his mixtape ‘Yippy Kiyay’, released on his own record label Firm Fusion Records, AXSOM has now set his sights on taking over the globe. The single ‘Shmoney’ off the same mixtape, is out now via all digital music stores, while the video is also available for viewing via YouTube.Trap booms and hi-hats notwithstanding, AXSOM is also grime on the hiphop and rap crossover. His rap cadences are the core exercise; it is essential to his appeal. From start to distant finish, in fact, he is aggressively committed to endearing listeners to his flow and wordplay chops instead of just wailing from a dentist’s chair, like most of his trap peers do.

Furthermore AXSOM never discounts values like personal dynamism, variety, or range, which is evident glancing through his catalog. “Shmoney,” “Yippy Kiyay,” or later tracks like “Have You Seen Her,” and “On A Roll” are all great songs: impassioned, radically romantic, or overtly street sans any restraint. He is capable of belting sweet nothings just as much as he is able to issue credible threats.

As a single, it feels right that “Shmoney” is basically a checklist of everything AXSOM can do. His low-register warble, his clever vowels, his heavy, thick-tongued cadence, and his edgeless moods are sprinkled across the track like familiar jingles. AXSOM goes smooth but hard, one word tumbling into the next, then punctuated by a sigh.

This money anthem is an airy cloud-rap dream in which AXSOM sounds buoyant even as he test drives a lower register. This, right here, sounds like a typical AXSOM moment, but his talent makes a convincing argument that all of his songs have been AXSOM moments, even before we knew who he was.

AXSOM is slightly too far left field for the mainstream on “Shmoney”, but a quick listen to his most recent material indicates that he is coming back around to create something that has huge, universal appeal.

It’s like the American Dream from a badass UK artist who feels things really deeply and is suddenly on the edge of being something bigger and better. From his artistic input, you get the impression that AXSOM’s entire career so far has been fueled by proving people wrong, and with his latest releases, he’s been doing it again!
