Antjuan Washington aka Tjuan Benafactor, the Pittsburgh-based hip-hop artist whose production and songwriting skills are well-known in the underground industry, via the Arucca Flyboy label, is back in the box with a spanking brand new track, entitled “All Night” featuring none other than Jeff Timmons founding member of the Grammy-nominated pop group 98 Degrees. They are on a mission to grab the rap game from this strange period of ambient experimentation and pull it back to the glory era of the early 00s, but with a nice modern twist. Despite being a critically acclaimed producer, lyricist, and rapper achieving a level of personal success, Tjuan has for some reason remained one of the most underrated and overlooked emcees in the game in my book, and “All Night”, is the umpteenth demonstration of that fact.
One of the best things about this new track is that it somehow simultaneously feels like a candy-painted nostalgia trip, as well as something from a funky future yet to come. The soulful vocal hook by Timmons helps to add to this feeling of timelessness, while the spacey electronic sound-bed sets it light years ahead.
It’s enthralling on a sonic level, and Tjuan Benafactor keeps up lyrically, his flow more than malleable enough to fit with the insistent slow burning groove. He steadfastly immerses himself not only in the track’s impressive breadth, but also its practically unparalleled depth.
It’s an understatement to say that the bar has been set incredibly high this time around for Tjuan to top. As an artist who’s prided himself on consistency and known for being meticulous in his approach to crafting music, this song comes at a pivotal moment of both change and immense growth in the game.
Never a stranger to introspection and reflectiveness, Tjuan harnesses all the energy from his experiences, as he takes the time to reflect and explore this lusty jam. Needless to say, he does not disappoint.
It’s an understatement to say that “All Night” is jammed with a stunning, head nodding production that will have fans instantly bobbing their head. Tjuan Benafactor delivers an exceptional performance, without even breaking into a sweat.
When Jeff Timmons steps into the mix, there is a juxtaposition of their two styles that always mesh easily together, and are expertly interwoven in way only the most skilled and dedicated artists can ultimately pull off. Tjuan’s confident flow against the soulful flurry of gorgeous hooks by Timmons, make this song standout from the crowd.
“All Night” is a phenomenal track that showcases a set of artists still at the top of their game. In hip-hop, you usually have two camps: those who listen to whatever mumble rapper is trending, and those who value the craftsmanship and skill rap takes.
If you fall in the second category, this is a project you can’t miss. The combination of excellent production, top-notch vocals and relatable content makes this ambitious project a must-listen.
