Anybody remember Pootie Tang? An underrated and often overlooked movie about a Blaxploitation type character who fights crime with a belt and speaks in nonsense words that everyone understands. Pootie always respects the ladies. He is like a surreal undercover brother. The plot taken from the Chris Rock movie of the same title reads: “Pootie Tang, the musician/actor/folk hero of the ghetto, is chronicled from his early childhood to his battles against the evil Corporate America, who try to steal his magic belt and make him sell out by endorsing addictive products to his people. Pootie must learn to find himself and defeat the evil corporation for all the young black children of America, supatime.”
I don’t know if the new track “Pootietang” (Prod. By Wheat Gwopo), by Prince Kenji STM aka Cary Mayfield from Victorville, CA takes any cues from the movie, but it’s the same entertaining and eclectic ride. Prince Kenji STM is an original, ingenious, and creative rapper.
The track is tight, though different, while the rapper’s acrobatic rapping style is downright gritty, but very entertaining. “Pootietang”, is a song that will make you turn up the stereo. It is filled to the brim with a dope beat and catchy rhymes. Not only is Prince Kenji STM different, original, not like everybody else in the business, he’s got quite a sense of humor.
You will get to experience all that as well as his fast, hurricane-speed rhymes on this track. The best part is that Prince Kenji STM has his own, unique style that no other artist has right now. There are different kinds of rappers, but Prince Kenji STM has the skill and courage to make up a style and genre all of his own!
Try to hate on this, and you’re going to come up short. What makes Prince Kenji STM fascinating is his ultra-magnetic personality. His tendency to sometimes over-exaggerate syllables and consonants, keeps his flow distinctive and punchy.
On listening to “Pootietang” (Prod. By Wheat Gwopo), I couldn’t think of anything (versatility, lyrical complexity, voice tone/mic presence, singing, personality, content) that Prince Kenji STM was lacking. Using his own raspy stylings, he manages to pull together one of the unconventional rap tracks currently around.
Prince Kenji STM has impressed me with his new offering. As soon as you listen to this track you are automatically drawn to it and all it has to give, simply because it is truly something different, something fresh, and will take your mind off the mainstream for a while.
