Ace Boogy: “No Days Off”- an infectious combination of melody, passion and precision

Ace Boogy’s “No Days Off” has to be looked at as a breath of fresh air during a time where MCs are all coming out with studio albums. The mixtape which actually plays out like an album, features 16 full length tracks and includes beats from a wide variety of producers. The track list was whittled down from a whopping one hundred songs, as Ace only wanted to fill the recording with full-on bangers. “No Days Off” is the rapper’s 4th mixtape since October 2017, which give a clear indication of his ferocious prolificacy. Every song on here is something you can listen to over and over again. Ace goes about his rapping as if the project of pitching to a broader audience necessarily requires him to show his identity and his emotions. Channeling that kind of realism and energy into an album is a challenge, but he succeeds with this new release.

There are many ways to connect with people, lyrics, imagery, delivery, and the best rappers just have something intangible that comes out through the speakers and hits you between the ears, and Ace Boogy has that in spades. You can’t help but believe every word and know that they are authentic.

His most endearing songs are powered by an infectious combination of melody, passion and precision. The mixtape’s opener, “No Days Off” (dj drama) has Ace coming right up to hitting that alchemic formula right off the cuff.

The next songs include “All me” (feat C Bane) prod by d.j. Swift, has a mellow piano-driven type of production that matches well with Ace’s tough and aggressive flows and the melodic hook. The bombast of “Boogy” (prod by Trappster beats), and the haunting “No Love” (prod Cormill), produces music that can touch the hearts of his fans and relate on a deeper level than most critics will ever be able to understand.

By the time you get to “Already know” (prod Jacob lethal beats), “Been dope” (prod MB13 beats) a few choice tracks and stories have already been told.

And when you factor in the production, you realize Ace Boogy is doing something a series of more successful MCs are not. He is not including one bar of filler. By now you can see how Ace effortlessly infuses a mix of enthralling elements into his formula.

Go getta” (prod beat demons) rides on his high energy flow and wordplay, while “All along” (prod Plugoz beats) showcases his melodic vocals. Ace proves himself to be a rapper more concerned with telling a story than flashing jewelry and getting high. At the same time he is able to frame that story inside an epic beat, which is what happens on “Go to Work” (prod the Martians), one of the album’s standout tracks.

Greatness surfaces to the top of this hip-hop cocktail. The bassline gets wailed on in the choruses, and a steady snare keeps the verses in rhythm, as “Plug talk” (prod Retnik beats) and “So High” (prod Tower Beats) push the momentum of the album forward. Charisma and confidence drive “I Know It Do” and “Bet It Up” (prod by Ice Star), and when it ends, Ace Boogy stands atop a smoldering pile of emotion and badassery.

Ace brought his A game and the record is his best body of work to date. “No Days Off” showcases his abilities as an artist and is a testament to his originality in the genre, proving he is one of the better underground rappers in the game right now.
