Nicki Kris: “Falling To Pieces” – a powerful response to a tragedy

That the way this world is being conceived is radically changing on a daily basis has become all too obvious. I haven’t heard so many conscious and apperceptive songs since the sixties and early seventies. The continual shootings, killings and terrorist attacks around the world are eventually starting to make a lasting impression in people’s minds, as well as where it matters most, their hearts.

Too often in the past, devastating events have been brushed aside, because they happen to ‘other people’, other populations, and other nations. However, I am convinced that if we do not take action in changing the degenerating social, cultural, and political situation at hand, soon we and our families will become those ‘other people’.

In the midst of all this upheaval and tragedy, many artists are seriously beginning to communicate compelling and assertive messages of love, hope and a call for change.

“Falling To Pieces”, by singer-songwriter Nicki Kris, is not only a powerful response to the tragedy at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. But Nicky has gone one step further – all proceeds from the iTunes sales of the song will be donated to the OneOrlando Fund for the entire life of the song.

OneOrlando provides much needed support to the victims of the Pulse tragedy and their families. On “Falling To Pieces”, Nicki, an active voting member of The Recording Academy, once again showcases the captivating power of her voice and words.

Her commanding voice and ferocious declarations of self-empowerment come shining through the verses and the chorus of the song: “But I want you to know that I’ve got a will of steel. I’m not falling to pieces, though I’m battered and bruised. I’m not falling to pieces, or broken and used. I’m not falling to pieces, not dazed or confused. I’m not falling to pieces over you.”

Ultimately, besides her voice, Nicki uses her emotional complexity and personal connection to transmit her messages.

I think it’s the fact that Nicki Kris is such a good songwriter and maybe more importantly, communicator, that makes her so accessible across so many different lines. Her music is faultlessly personable if not exactly personal and the fire in her delivery turns the lyrics into electric shockwaves.

However her better-than-ever, bigger-than-ever voice doesn’t have to do all the heavy lifting because her writing is so smart and thoughtful. “Falling To Pieces” is supremely well made, in all of its aspects and will meet all of your expectations. With the release of this track, Nicki shows that she may be beautiful, but she is no docile little flower.
