Melvin Fromm Jr.: “Nice Party Filled Life” – some rock n’ roll piano!

Melvin Fromm Jr. keeps knocking them dead with each release. With yet another instrumental from his rich catalog, this time Melvin goes for the rock n’ roll piano thing. It’s more rhythmic than melodic, and if the ever was a Melvin Fromm Jr. song that would benefit from some singing it would be “Nice Party Filled Life”. I’m pretty sure that’s what Melvin was aiming for with this arrangement. So if you think you can sing this one give him a shout!

Melvin Fromm Jr.  is totally in control from bar one as he cranks out this tune with a fire and intensity that doesn’t seem to have dimmed despite his long list of releases. His piano playing is sizzling great balls of fire and remains distinctive and lively throughout.

The steady, straight drumming is also a perfect match for the song. Often on instrumentals like these, the right drumming involves the perfect balance of rhythm and a flair for melodic sympathy without disturbing the rest of the arrangement.

Here the drummer’s ability to play perfectly and both not call attention to himself and alternately make you appreciate the true importance of an able time keeper, is to be applauded – as is that of the rest of the band, who follow Melvin Fromm Jr.’s song arrangement to a tee.

Because this is a track from a man of who is seeking to build his reputation in the film music and easy listening instrumental industry there is no room for faltering and so the record’s overall composition and exemplary execution are two of “Nice Party Filled Life’s” greatest strengths. I’m now keenly waiting to hear some vocals matching Melvin’s upcoming tracks.
