Prynxe Stxne delivers audaciously entertaining alternative rap
Prynxe Stxne (Prynce Stone), a New York native, has developed a unique style since moving to Florida as a child, by mixing together the hard punchline flows of a New Yorker with the heavy bass and upbeat sounds of the south. Dazzling work on the mic, introspective, confrontational and conscious lyrics, and an intelligent range of loud and mellow beats – all are for the finding in this man’s catalog of songs. As a storyteller and craftsman of highly conceptualized tracks, Prynxe Stxne frequently uses his first-person experiences as his literary device.
“Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That”‘ is a dizzying opening track, rhymes circling, doubling back, stacked on each other as Prynxe Stxne probes conflicting ideas about inherent human nature when it comes to sexual and cheating stereotypes who can’t fix their attitudea – “You got a man but you selling pussy. You claiming him on Instagram like nobody looking. He showers you with all his love but you still filthy. Always going through his phone because you feel guilty. Well what goes around comes back around…”
It is a tour de force: the way its string-laden soundscape carefully and precisely stitches together the various themes of the track as a whole is masterful, but note also the subtlety with which Prynxe Stxne makes the verses hit home.
At its core, the track puts on display Prynxe Stxne’s ability to weave a cohesive narrative through almost surreal rap storytelling. His voice floats over the music, not so much flowing over the beat as possessing it, twisting it, making it fit to what he has to say.
Throughout “I See Ya”, Prynxe Stxne’s ever-expanding vocal repertoire hauls the track’s narrative this way and that – a woozy sing-song to match the upbeat snap of the snare drum, then the heavy piano interlude is used as a counterpoint to the track’s feverish intensity, artificially slithering up and down the scale on to get under your skin.
Without a doubt Prynxe Stxne’s audaciously entertaining alternative rap will hold your attention. It’s strange that an emcee and storyteller of his caliber would have his sights set on being a lyricist, producer and manager.
