Moonlight Drive Shakes Up Women’s Fiction Readers with Inspiring Rock ‘n’ Roll Love Story

Set during the decadent 1980s rock music scene, this A.R. Hadley novel engages readers with themes of love and redemption

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—May 16, 2021Author A.R. Hadley released her new novel, Moonlight Drive, this week. This work of women’s fiction enthralls readers with a challenging and compelling love story set in the decadent rock scene of the 1980s.

Throughout the narrative, Hadley deals with themes of lost love, self-discovery, and redemption despite the temptations the music world offers. This marks the first wide release for the author.

Moonlight Drive opens in 1985, telling the story of two musicians: Daniela Isabella and Nick Johnsen. One a runaway. The other the bassist for one of the biggest rock bands in the world. Several years have passed since the two dreamers from Chicago have seen each other. And by the time Daniela manages to join Moonlight Drive’s 1985 Live and Wired tour, she finds Nick has transformed into Nicki — no longer the boy she remembers, a man sampling every excess his new lifestyle presents.

Lost in a haze of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll, Nicki Quick doesn’t recognize his childhood sweetheart. And Dani won’t tell him who she is. She focuses on writing music, learning chords, making friends. Then the tour comes to an end…

Dani won’t compromise her dreams, though — or give up on Nicki. A man who risks losing his life to addiction. A boy who needs to wake up and realize what truly matters in this world.

Through a series of emotional encounters, told in the author’s distinct voice, both characters learn what it takes for love to triumph over addiction. The kind of love that transcends what we know of this earth.

The two rockers eventually learn that being lost … is sometimes the same as being found.

The story behind the story is also noteworthy, melding perfectly with themes found throughout the pages. “It’s not unusual for writers to have a muse, someone who helps spark a character to life,” Hadley beams, over the moon to tell people how this novel came to fruition, “and my muse for this book is Nikki Sixx. In 2019,” she continues, “after watching the Mötley Crüe biopic The Dirt — before I was even a Crüe fan — a seed was planted. And it grew and grew, blossoming into something that ended up blowing my heart wide open.”

Hadley hopes readers’ hearts combust as well. She wants people to be inspired. To seek help for substance abuse or depression. To follow dreams no matter age, sex, or circumstance. To connect through words and art and music.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

A.R. Hadley writes imperfectly perfect sentences by the light of her iPhone.

She loves the ocean.

Chocolate.

Her children.

And Cary Grant.

She annoys those darling little children by quoting lines from Back to the Future, but despite her knowledge of eighties and nineties pop culture, she was actually meant to live alongside the Lost Generation after the Great War and write a mediocre novel while drinking absinthe with Hemingway. Instead, find her sipping unsweet tea near a beautiful garden as she weaves fictional tales of love and connection amid reality.
