Ahmad McCown – “My Destination” – a proud self-empowering anthem!

To understand who Ahmad McCown is, it is simply necessary to listen to every single note of his singles, “Ahmad Is My Name” and “My Destination”. Every aspect of his personal and career view is right there in those sounds and words. Ahmad is Georgia-born, Delaware-raised artist, whose dream started with a stereo and a keyboard. Though he already knew, that he had found a new love in music, when as a toddler, he was able to quote song lyrics. From then on, he found himself listening to the likes of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Luther Vandross, as well as being influenced by Tevin Campbell, Babyface, Boyz II Men, Musiq Soulchild, Donell Jones, and many others.

Throughout his school years, Ahmad McCown participated in choirs and talent shows, as he strived to move his talent to a new level. At the age of fifteen, he received a keyboard as a gift from his parents. This prompted Ahmad to spend his time writing original songs.

He also went on to join the youth band and the worship team at his local church. Now fully embarking on his musical journey in a serious way, Ahmad is releasing music to world while he discovers and unlocks all the intricacies of the music industry.

The unique beauty of Ahmad McCown’s approach to his artistry is that he seems to be in no rush to shamelessly push his wares onto an unsuspecting public with overblown hype and fickle sonic trends. This is clearly evidenced by listening to the single “My Destination”.

The sound is fresh, but nostalgic, leaning on many traits learned from his influences. There is no pretentiousness loaded into the song’s aesthetics, as Ahmad naturally blends enticing soul, R&B, funk and pop flavors into the track.

The mellifluous tone of Ahmad McCown’s voice confidently, joyfully and smoothly slides through the self-empowering narrative. Ahmad’s style somehow reminds me of the once immensely underrated talents of the legendary Bill Withers.

Bill too, kept his performances simple and straightforward, cutting out all the excessive superfluities, while digging deep into each song’s core, allowing the meaning and messages to quickly surface.  It’ an innate art that Ahmad McCown also possesses.

“Never did you think, I’d make it this far. For some reason you thought I’d surrender from the start. My dignity erased your travesty. No longer will I take a dose of foolery,” sings Ahmad McCown, as he unpacks his proud self-empowering anthem. “My Destination” rides on a distinct piano-driven production, a slapping drumbeat and a funky rhythm, as it cuts down the doubters, haters and naysayers right in their own tracks.

Clearly, Ahmad McCown has reached a level of maturity in his art and persona, where his is able to rise above the negative attitudes, which run rife not only within the music industry, but also in everyday life. Many upcoming creatives badly suffer this situation, but Ahmad McCown brings a ray of uplifting inspiration with “My Destination”.

It is essentially his story, but it is relatable to an infinity of real-life situations. Ahmad is telling people to hang onto their dreams and persist in their endeavors, regardless of who or what, is trying to hinder or halt their progress.

At the same time, Ahmad McCown realizes that achieving any amount of success is no easy task, and that there will be pitfalls and lessons to be learned along the way. That said, Ahmad has long decided that he will not allow any outside source to interrupt his voyage towards his declared destination. There could hardly be any better self-empowering advice than that.
